Performance Ensembles
Learning in a group setting is a great way to take your playing to the next level. Our performance ensembles give you experience being in front of an audience and learning the tools to “play well with others”. Become the kind of musician others want to play with!

- Jazz Ensemble Grade 6 - Adult
Join in the fun of jazz, pop, rock and world music. This class touches on many different musical styles as you learn about performance and soloing techniques. All instruments are welcome. Participation requires basic competence on instruments, music reading skill, and knowledge of key signatures and scales. Participants will have opportunities to perform with the faculty's ensemble doing professional gigs in the community. Individuals must be studying privately with a teacher.

Various ensembles are available to all players interested in gaining group performance experience. Mixed instrumental ensembles: duos, trios, quartets, will come together and learn music from a variety of periods and styles.

- Second Line Drum Corps Grades 6 - 12
The American “march” rhythm and the syncopated rhythm that we call jazz produced a unique rhythm named after the “second” line or group of people at sad occasions that turned the rhythm and the music into a joyful celebration. Students will have opportunities to play and practice many of the basic drum rudiments and apply them in drum cadences on the snare, bass drum, cymbals, and tom toms. Students must have a snare drum for at-home practice.

- Afro-Caribbean Guitar Grades 4 - 12
This class focuses on several different world grooves that bring traditional rhythms into popular styles. Students study the ways that people from different cultures feel rhythm. Styles covered include: Reggae, Samba, Bachata, Cuban Mambo, Soukous, Brazillian Funk, Ghananian Highlife and Senegalese Mbalax music. Prerequisite: one year of guitar studies.
