Registration

Students may not begin classes or lessons until the registration form and payment has been received or scholarship awarded.  There is a $5 registration fee for summer semester, $10 for Day Camp (if enrolling in both program – only one registration fee of $10 is required).  A monthly payment plan is available.  Make checks payable to Arts in Motion.  Drop off or mail registration forms and payment to: 3405 S. Financial Aid

Financial Aid is available for children, youth and adults to participate in any programs provided by AIM.  Income restrictions apply.  Call (206) 723-3131 or visit our financial aid page for information and application.  To qualify for financial aid, fill out the financial application and return with documentation of your annual or monthly income.

TO REGISTER FOR CLASSES:  On the registration form, mark all the classes you would like to take and include the tuition fee.  Be sure to pick your payment plan (add $2 for monthly payment option).  A $5 registration fee is required for all students.   If you would like to apply for financial aid, please fill out forms for aid, registration and send in require documentation with the $5 registration fee.  You will be contacted regarding the amount you may qualify for.  Please allow two weeks for processing.  You may also come into our office to register during office hours.

        

 

Why Musikgarten?  

Only Musikgarten offers a comprehensive, sequential plan for the musical development of your child from birth to age 9. Each of our six courses stands on its own and fits the developmental needs of the child. Class time is educational, fun and purposeful – a rarity in today’s world which often confuses entertainment with education.

 

Music & Movement for Toddlers

Ages 14 months through 3 years old
Participate with your toddler in singing, moving, dancing, listening, and playing simple instruments. Through activities that bridge the natural connection between music and movement, your child's musical aptitude, listening abilities, singing potential, and sense of beat are enhanced and developed.

Music & Movement for Preschoolers             

Ages 3 - 5 years old 
Music play in this class celebrates your child's love of nature and nurtures his growing independence. Nurturing beat competency and tuneful singing are the primary musical goals, fostered in an age-appropriate, playful atmosphere. Activities build attention and self-expression and include singing, moving, focused listening, musical games, instruments, and dramatic play.

Creative Dance          Grades K- 3

Students explore moving their bodies to different sounds and rhythms.  Scarves, balls, musical instruments help students express their creative side as they dance their way through stories and songs.

Introduction to Drawing     Grades 1 - 6

Here’s your chance to learn the skill of drawing in scale, mastering angles, shading, and perspective and build a foundation for creative expression. Through different exercises and assignments students will learn the fundamentals of drawing and the primary vocabulary relevant to understanding two-dimensional art.  Primary skills and language covered in this class will vary on age level; all skill levels welcome, no experience necessary.

Cartooning & Illustration   

Grades 4 - Adult

Here’s a class for all of you who have always wanted to draw fun cartoon characters and interesting designs.  Basic drawing and creative exercise will help each student develop new skill and gain the confidence to create and express your ideas in print.  No prior drawing skills necessary, all skill levels welcome.

Beginning Piano   Grades: Entering 1 - 6 

 

Students learn to read and play music through the traditional note reading method. Students that are prepared to commit to good practice at home and a quicker pace of study will enjoy these classes.   Instructor help student choose extra music that most inspires them.

Pre-Kindergarten Piano               

Entering Kindergarten

Students incorporate singing and drumming as they learn to hear sounds and patterns and play them on the piano - A fun way to get started in your music learning adventure.   Student may continue with Kindergarten piano class in fall semester with a great head start.

Voice Development       Grades 1- 12

Discover your true singing voice using your whole body as an instrument.  Develop vocal skills, pitch control and stage presence through fun singing & music activities.

African Drum                Grades 2 -12

Learn basic rhythms from various cultures around the world as students explore how the many sounds of drums and percussion come together in a drum circle.  Students should have their own hand drum.

Second Line Drumming Corps               

Grades 6 - 12

The combination of the American “march” rhythm and the syncopated rhythm that we call jazz produced a unique rhythm named after the “second” line or group of people at sad occasions that turned the rhythm and the music into a joyful celebration.  Students will have the opportunity to hear local professional artists and perform in community parades and other events.   Students must have some music reading background, experience playing drums and a snare drum for at-home practice.

FULL SCHOLARSHIPS are available to students who financially qualify.

Snare Drum & Drum Set                         

Grades 2 - 6

Learn basic snare drum and rhythms to prepare you for playing the drum set.  Students will learn to read rhythms and learn drumming patterns and techniques.  Bring your own snare drum and sticks.

Beginning Instrumental                           

Grades K - 6

Learn the basics of playing an instrument in a fun group setting.  Students will learn about the instrument care, tuning and the technical skill of playing.  Note reading and theory will be covered as they learn each new song. Student can bring their own instrument or rent through local music stores in the area.

Ensembles Performance               

Levels - 2nd yr +

Want to play music with other musicians?  Check out this mixed age performance class of classical and jazz ensembles.  Duos, trios, and quartets will come together and learn music from a variety of periods and styles.   Various ensembles are available to all players interested in gaining group performance experience.  Come eager to learn and have fun!  Individual participants must cover the cost of music.

LESSON & CLASS POLICIES    

 

 

Missed Lessons and Classes Policy

Students are charged for all lessons and classes for which they are registered, including those missed due to student absence.  Teachers will not make up lessons or classes that the student misses.  Sessions missed due to teachers absence, will be make up at a mutually agreed upon time.

 

Class Cancellation & Bad Weather or Emergencies

Arts in Motion reserve the right to cancel any class for which there is insufficient enrollment.  In case of cancellation, students will be issued a full refund including the registration fee.  Instructors may be changed without prior notice to students.  In the case of bad weather or emergencies, AIM will call you to cancel lessons or classes and the session will be made up at a later time.

 

Accident or Illness

In the event of an accident or illness while attending activities, students will hold Arts in Motion and partnering programs harmless.

 

Non Discrimination

Arts in Motion does not discriminate on the basis of race, age, religion, gender, ability or economic status. Our programs are available and open to all.

 

Personal Property Liability

Arts in Motion does not assume liability for personal property including musical instruments used in classes and lessons.

 

Scholarships/Tuition Assistance

Need-based financial aid is available, to the extent funds permit, for qualified students who can not otherwise afford instruction.  Please call (206)723-3131 or visit our website at www.aimschool.org, for a printable scholarship/financial aid application. 

 

Photographs and Recordings

Arts in Motion uses photographs and recordings made of school sponsored functions involving students in its publications, brochures and website.  If you prefer not to be included, please notify our office in writing.

 

Late Payments & Returned Check

A non-refundable late fee of $5 will be assessed for any payment received after the due date.  Students will be dropped from classes or lessons for nonpayment.  $10 fee for all bank issues related to cashing check.

 

Materials and Books 

For materials or books not included in the tuition, students must reimburse instructors for supplies and materials.  Instructors may withhold items, at their discretion, until payment has been received.

 

Withdrawals and Refunds

Notice of withdrawal must be made to Arts in Motion in writing. Refunds, if applicable will be determined by the date on which written notice is received. Registration fee and late fees are not refundable.  Refunds will be computed as follows:

Classes: Fourteen days before class begin, 100%; before 2nd class meeting, 50%.  No refunds after second class meeting.  AIM will take into consideration emergency withdrawal situations.  Students must contact the Director for consideration.

 

Individual & Team Lessons: Tuition will be calculated at the single lesson rate for the number of weeks leading up to the date of notification, plus two additional weeks. A refund will be issued for funds paid in excess of calculated tuition.
